Julian Barnes / Il senso di una fine

Kafka ha scritto "Un libro deve essere un'ascia per il mare ghiacciato che è dentro di noi". "Il senso di una fine" è così, un colpo d'ascia dietro l'altro. Barnes costruisce per questo romanzo un sapiente disvelamento progressivo della trama, come la memoria che a poco a poco, se stimolata, recupera parti di passato dimenticate. E proprio sugli inganni della memoria gioca la storia narrata, che si sviluppa intrecciando i ricordi del protagonista con quelli degli altri personaggi e le "prove tangibili" dei fatti come realmente si sono svolti. Davvero notevole.

Kafka wrote "A book must be an ax for the frozen sea that is within us". "The sense of an ending" is like that, one blow behind the other. For his novel Barnes builds a wise progressive unveiling of the plot, like the memory that little by little, if stimulated, recovers parts of a forgotten past. The main theme of the story is the deceptions of memory and the story is built interweaving the memories of the protagonist and those of the other characters with the "tangible evidence" of the facts as they really took place. Really remarkable.
